    Blue Jays 9, Braves 5

Vernon Wells homered and drove in three runs to help the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Atlanta Braves 9-5 on Saturday.

Rod Barajas hit a solo homer and John Parrish won for the first time since May 19, 2007, for Baltimore against Washington. Parrish allowed one run and four hits in six innings.

Jurrjens wows skipper as Braves roll

Bobby Cox has seen plenty of fine pitching performances as manager of the Atlanta Braves, but few as good as the one Jair Jurrjens delivered Friday night.

Jurrjens worked eight innings, extending his scoreless innings streak to 21 2-3, and Mark Teixeira backed him with a homer and three RBIs as the Braves beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-0.

“He couldn’t have pitched better than that,” Cox said. “That’s one of the best games I’ve seen pitched, ever.

    Braves 4, Blue Jays 0

Mark Teixeira hit a two-run homer, Jair Jurrjens pitched a career-high eight innings and the Atlanta Braves beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-0 on Friday night.

Jurrjens (8-3) allowed just three hits - all singles - and didn’t allow a runner to reach second base. He turned it over to Mike Gonzalez for the ninth.

Atlanta posted just its 12th road victory of the season, the lowest total in baseball, while Toronto was blanked for the sixth time this season and second time in seven games.

    Braves-Blue Jays Preview

Atlanta manager Bobby Cox has quite a history with new Toronto skipper Cito Gaston, but it’s been a while since the two have squared off against one another.

Cox and Gaston will be managing against each other for the first time in over a decade when the Braves and Blue Jays open a three-game series at Rogers Centre.

Gaston was named manager of the Blue Jays (38-42) last Friday after John Gibbons was fired.

Litsch dominates Reds as Jays win

Even before the game began, Edinson Volquez knew this wasn’t going to be his day.

Volquez was tagged for a season-high seven runs, including two on a home run by Scott Rolen, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-1 on Thursday night.

The hard-throwing right-hander, who was 3-0 in his previous five starts, struggled with his command, his footing on the mound and was gone after 4 1-3 innings, his shortest outing of the season.

    Blue Jays 7, Reds 1

Scott Rolen hit a two-run homer off Edinson Volquez, Jesse Litsch pitched eight sharp innings and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-1 on Thursday night.

Volquez (10-3) entered with a major league-best 1.71 ERA but was tagged for a season-high seven runs, five earned, and six hits in 4 1-3 innings, his shortest start of the season. Volquez’s ERA rose to 2.08.

Wade really needs to look in the mirror

There’s no excusing Shawn Chacon’s attack on Ed Wade, but Ken Rosenthal says the Astros GM has to look in the mirror too.

Bruce delivers in clutch for Reds

Jay Bruce drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, Ken Griffey hit his 602nd career home run and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 on Wednesday night.

Toronto reliever Brian Wolfe (0-2) began the 10th by walking Norris Hopper and Paul Janish and both runners advanced when David Ross sacrificed. Left-hander Jesse Carlson came on to face the left-handed Bruce, who hung in against the tough southpaw to loft a fly ball to left that easily produced a run.
