News analysis: Well out for 6-8 weeks

The Associated Press reports the Blue Jays have placed outfielder Vernon Wells on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left wrist. He’s expected to miss six to eight weeks.

Win-now focus in Cincy could mean heavy action

The Reds may need to get worse before they get better. If that’s the case, Ken Rosenthal says somebody could be shown the door.

Tribe can’t complete sweep of Jays

Asdrubal Cabrera delivered a home run in the first game of a doubleheader Monday and the 14th unassisted triple play in major league history in the nightcap.

The drive helped Cleveland win 3-0. The fielding gem wasn’t enough to complete the sweep.

“It’s a triple play but I’m not going to talk about it; we didn’t win the game,” Indians manager Eric Wedge said.

    Blue Jays 3, Indians 0(10)

Asdrubal Cabrera turned the 14th unassisted triple play in major league history, and it wasn’t enough for the Cleveland Indians to complete a doubleheader sweep.

Shannon Stewart hit a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, Aaron Hill added a two-run single and the Toronto Blue Jays beat Cleveland 3-0 on Monday night to salvage a split of the doubleheader.

    Carmona comes through for Tribe

Fausto Carmona gave Cliff Lee a tough act to follow.

Carmona pitched a five-hitter for Cleveland’s second consecutive shutout over the struggling Toronto Blue Jays, a 3-0 victory in Monday’s doubleheader opener.

Lee, 6-0 with a major league-leading 0.81 ERA, was scheduled to start the second game for the Indians.

Carmona (4-1) struck out three and walked four in his second shutout and third complete game in 47 big league starts.

Marlins usher in new era with Hanley contract

The Marlins don’t usually lock up their young talent. That changed this week with Hanley Ramirez’s contract. What gives in Florida?

    Blue Jays-Indians game rained out

The Toronto Blue Jays-Cleveland Indians game was postponed by rain Sunday and will be made up in a doubleheader on Monday.

Sunday’s scheduled starters, Toronto’s A.J. Burnett and Cleveland’s Fausto Carmona, are scheduled to pitch in the first game beginning at 4:05 p.m. Indians left-hander Cliff Lee, off to an impressive start this season, will face Shaun Marcum in the nightcap.

Sizemore’s two homers power Indians’ rout

Grady Sizemore gave Indians fans a couple of extra mementoes in addition to those they received at the turnstiles.

With all fans taking home a Sizemore souvenir blanket, Cleveland’s center fielder sent two baseballs into the seats, too. He homered twice and drove in five runs to support Aaron Laffey’s sharp pitching in a 12-0 win over Toronto on Saturday night that sent the Blue Jays to their fourth straight loss.

    Indians 12, Blue Jays 0

Grady Sizemore homered twice and drove in five runs, Aaron Laffey pitched seven sharp innings and the Cleveland Indians routed Toronto 12-0 Saturday night to hand the Blue Jays their fourth straight loss.
